The newly South Africans Thrash Metallers , Truth Decayed released their Debut EP "Modern Day Illusion" and on this occasion the co-founder and singer of the band , Ryno Theron spoke to Rock Da Vinci Music Webzine and Chris Kostopoulos in an Full interview , we Met better And we Recommend Them To The Greek Fans.
Rock Da Vinci: So Hello Ryno And Welcome To Rock Da Vinci - Music Webzine. Please tell your Greek audience when ''Truth Decayed" started, and how did you come up with this name?
Ryno: Truth Decayed started essentially as a lockdown band during South Africa's hard lockdown last year. Warren and I (Ryno) Were sending each other riffs back
and forth, and eventually as restrictions eased, we became a full project. The name is basically a commentary on the distorted versions of truth we face today through fake news and information overload online.Rock Da Vinci: Please tell us more about your line up
Ryno: Myself (Ryno Theron) Guitar and vocals, Warren Jones guitar, Johan Maree bass and Brandon Carey on Drums. Brandon and I have the most experience having both played in relatively successful bands for their time and playing numerous festivals and events around South Africa. Warren is a very accomplished Guitarist whose last big project was an impressive Metallica Tribute of the Kill Em All album. And Johan is a newbie, but full of passion, and he's also becoming a solid studio producer, and will be handling our upcoming album this year.
Rock Da Vinci: If someone just found out about you, how would you describe yourselves?
Ryno: We are a South African Thrash Metal band, with strong Groove Metal elements. We are old school, and you can hear older bands inspired us such as Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Priest and also bands such as Amon Amarth and Lamb Of God. We try to keep it traditional, and very listenable.
Rock Da Vinci: What inspired you the most in the worldwide metal music?
Ryno: Just everything about Metal, the freedom, the raw energy that comes with it. It is such a powerful form of music to express a wide range of emotions, not just anger but excitement, sadness and more.
Rock Da Vinci: Tell us about your latest single and EP
Ryno: Modern Day Illusion is a two track EP that was recorded very quickly and
rushed and released just to be an introduction for us in the Metal community. We had no idea that it would win us a battle contest with The Metal Lab and get us a top 5 spot in The Southern African Metal Madness Week contest. It also received a positive review in the December issue of the mighty Metal Hammer magazine which was a dream come true for us.Rock Da Vinci: What are your future plans?
Ryno: Most immediate plans are to finish and release our full-length debut album this year, and to start performing as much as possible when Covid restrictions lift further. We have also started online concerts too and will probably do more of those too.
Rock Da Vinci: You are one ocean away from the biggest metal festivals in Europe. How easy is it for a band to rise up in South Africa?
Ryno: It is not particularly easy, but a number of South African bands have done it. Vulvodynia has proven that with enough hard work, talent, and smart marketing you can not only do it, but become a real player in the international Metal world.
Rock Da Vinci: We would like to hear your predictions about the metal music in South Africa and the rest of the world in the future
Ryno: South Africa is always a tough one to predict, but what we have is loads of talented bands. And a lot more of them are getting noticed now. So hopefully that momentum will continue.
Bands are also getting smarter and getting good people in their corner like we did with our manager Devo Oosthuizen from Devographic, who not only got us on Metal Hammer amongst other great, but also other artists he represents. So South African Metal is in a good place for those that take the opportunities. As far as international Metal, if you just look at Jinjer alone I think the future looks bright.Rock Da Vinci: If you could choose one band to share the stage with which one would it be?
Ryno: For me personally. I would say Venom Prison. They are so good.
Rock Da Vinci: Would you like to send a message to your Greek fans?
Ryno: We have received a lot of love from Greece these last few months, and we are so grateful. Greek fans seem to have a strong passion for Metal, and it is an honour to share our music with you. Stay Metal \m/
